BASEBALL NEWS
Convenor: Phil Habeck 254-5508
A happy 2010 to everyone and all the best throughout the year.
Hard to believe but in less than 12 weeks time, our boys and girls will be back out on our beautifully groomed diamonds enjoying an evening at the ballpark. Hopefully, the snow will continue to stay away (my apologies to the snowmobile enthusiasts), the sun will shine brightly and we will soon be able to throw some strikes, make some defensive outs and even hit one out over the fence. But most of all, we hope that our young athletes will continue to enjoy themselves while learning some of the FUNdamentals of base ball.
Before that can happen, I invite all of you, young and not so young, to meet at the baseball registration table and fill out a form. Winakwa will once again be hosting teams from the Rally Cap ages (5 to 7 years of age) to the PeeWee category (12 to 13 years of age). Bantam aged kids (14 to 15 years of age) and Midget aged kids (16 to 18) will play at a regional level (Bonivital) as we usually don't have enough numbers to host a team of our own. For those of you who have finished their Midget "career", we invite you to sign up for our second year Junior B (19 to 21 years of age) team. There is still some competitive baseball in many of you...you are still "too young" to be playing slo-pitch.
New this year...for the girls (10 to 12 years of age) in our program who would like to continue to play baseball, Bonivital will try to host an ALL-GIRLS baseball team for the upcoming season. This team would be made up of players from the entire Bonivital area and they would play against other young ladies from across the city of Winnipeg as other areas will also try to form a team.
While you are at it, why not give coaching a shot. If your young person is going to be involved, you might as well help out as a head coach, as assistant or as a team manager...when it comes to volunteering, the more the merrier they say.
During registration days, there will be more information at the baseball table such as UMPIRE CLINICS for anyone interested in making a little $$$$...Many of our young umpires earned themselves quite a bit of spending money last summer and I know they are looking to earn a little more this season....So come out and give it a shot. There are never too many umpires. Also, we will have the dates as well as the times for the Black Sox AAA camps/workouts for anyone interested in making the area's elite teams.
Thank you to the parents who did drop off their uniforms. If you still happen to have a Winakwa baseball uniform hanging around in a closet, please bring them in to the club and we'll be happy to take it off of your hands....
Any questions, please call me.
Phil
