We offer programs for youth and adults with a staff of six or more

qualified teachers. Professionally directed by Linda Taylor Boyd, certified

member of MBTSA/CBFT (Baton and Dance Manitoba).

 

 

Baton

 

Get caught up in the catchy sport of baton, have fun and make new friends.

  • 3 years of age and older

  • levels - recreational to competitive in both group & solo work, including Two Baton

  • all instructors are certified by the Canadian Baton Federation

  • badge program & testing offered

  • Competitive Dance Twirl - competitive solo, solo dance and two baton

Baton classes are held at Howden School on Wednesday and Friday.

 

Many of our athletes from this program in 2011 have competed at Unicity

and Provincial Championships and have come home with many awards.

Dance

  • Baby Steps (2 year olds)

       This is an introduction to dance for 2 year olds and their parents to take

       part and learn along with the student. Skip, jump and be creative! Most

       of all, have fun!

 

  • Step Up (3 and 4 year olds)

       A combination of tap and ballet program.

 

  • Pre-Tap and Pre-Ballet (5 and 6 year olds)

       Level: Beginners and up.

 

  • Ballet/Tap/Jazz Ballet (all ages)

       Level: Beginner to advanced levels.

 

These classes provide a strong foundation for each of the disciplines with an

emphasis still on fun.

 

Advanced classes further develop strength and flexibility, furthering growth

in other activities. 

 

Those interested will be attending the Manitoba Dance Festival in May.

 

Dance classes held Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

 

Stepping Out

 

Adult dance classes will be offered in Jazz and Tap.

 

Winakwa is offering a new program called Broadway Jazz for Juniors

(8-11 years old)

 

Seniors (12 and up) must have dance experience and already enrolled in a

dance class.  Must meet criteria of teachers.

Acrobatics (3 years and up, boys and girls)

 

Beginner to advanced levels.

 

This program is structured on basic mat work to advanced tumbling

moves (excludes work such as vault & parallel bars). 

 

These classes help to develop strength and flexibility along with

fundamentals of gymnastics.

 

These classes are held every Tuesday and Saturday.

Hip Hop

 

Come and join the fun with the latest hip hop moves!  Bring your friend.

 

Boys and Girls 7 years old and up.

 

Classes are held on Monday between 6:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Niakwa

Place School on Pebble Beach Road (according to age and level).

 

45 minute classes. $160.00 annually.

 

If enough are interested – Adult Hip Hop classes will be offered . 

(if and adult has a child registered in the Hip Hop program, fee will be

$145.00 annually)

Pom Pom Team

This is a new and exciting program for children ages 7 and up. 

This activity offers dance, gymnastics and team work.

 

Classes are 1 hour on Tuesday evening.  $180.00 per year.

 

This up and coming program offers a chance to entertain and

compete.  Last year’s Pom Pom team competed and are now

winners of the 2010 & 2011 Unicity and Provincial Championships.

Support the whole program and have fun doing it.

 

 

Any one student taking more than 2 activities in the Dance & Baton

program will receive a discount on the 3rd activity.  This discount

will apply to the lowest cost.

 

Since we operate out of a community centre, we do not have to

charge expensive dance school rates.  However, you do receive the

same quality instruction.  For each of the disciplines you will receive

30 classes or more over the course of the programs duration.

November 2010

 

Temperature of -14 C, installing rebar and water lines to heat the

cement.

The interior wall was removed between the front entrance and the

skate exchange to make way for the large grand hall.

interior walls with a lot of electrical and plumbing within them.

June 2009 - Exciting Expansion News! 

 

Federal government, province and city announce investment in recreational infrastructure in St. Boniface.

 

The Winakwa Community Centre will move forward an expansion

and renovation thanks to funding from all three levels of government.

 

Under the project, the Winakwa Community Centre will construct a

full-sized gymnasium, including a front entrance, change rooms, washrooms, mechanical and circulation area as well as renovations

to the existing space.

 

"On behalf of of the Board of Winakwa Community Centre and our

many members, I am pleased to accept the opportunity to fulfill the

much needed expansion to our facility," said Robert K. Gobeil,

President of the Winakwa Community Centre.  "This will enable us

o better serve the needs of the many seniors, adults and children

of our community."
