Convenor:      Mike Penner 253-3715 or ringette@winakwacc.ca

Our season is well underway and the teams have started the second half. We are

hoping to have some fun for the rest of the season heading into the playoffs.

Our annual Golden Ring Tournament was another success. The weather was not

the most cooperative, but all in all it fun was had by all and most will be looking

forward to the next one. Hopefully the weather cooperates next time, but this is

Winnipeg!

I would like to thank all of our volunteers, families and coaches who came out to

help this year. Without their help the tournament would not have been a success.

I want to give a special thanks to Brian Keane, Tara Gilkes, Andrew Nurse and

especially Dawn Glays for all of their help putting this tournament together. Without

you this never would have happened!

Speaking of volunteers - We need your help for our program next year. We need

volunteers to help organize these events next year. They won't happen without your

help and we cannot run the program on our own. Please think about volunteering in

the community and helping out with the Ringette program. Please give me a call

at 253-3715 or send me an email at Ringette@winakwacc.ca if you are interested

or have any questions.

Good luck to all of our teams as they head into the rest of the season and playoffs.

Winakwa Ringette wishes you all a great year and look forward to seeing you all

back next season!

Mike

RINGETTE ROCKS

Ringette is a fantastic, fast-paced ice sport for everyone.  This year, tens of thousands of young girls as young as 5, and ladies 30 and over, will hit the ice for another exciting season.  Joining them this year will be the hundreds of boys who are signing up to play the "Ultimate in Ice Sports".

Ringette is a wonderful opportunity to be physically active AND have fun!!  There are many benefits of being part of a team sport, but the most important one is making new friends!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are on the lookout for more committee members to assist with such things as fundraising,  registration, development,  and more.  Please call if you have some time to spare and want to help this growing sport.

Play safe and have a great season!

Fair Play Code for Players

  1. I will play Ringette because I want to, not because others or coaches want me to.
  2. I will play by the rules and in the spirit of the game.

  3. I will control my temper - fighting and "mouthing off" can spoil  the activity for everybody.
  4. I will respect my opponents.
  5. I will do my best to be a true team player.
  6. I will remember that winning isn't everything - that having fun,  improving skills, making friends and doing my best are also important.

  7. I will acknowledge all good plays and performances - those of my team and of my opponents.

  8. I will remember that coaches and officials are there to help me. I will accept their decisions and show them respect.

  Fair Play Code for Coaches

  1. I will be reasonable when scheduling games and practices,  remembering that players have other interests and obligations.

  2. I will teach my players to play fairly and to respect the rules, officials, and teammates and opponents.  I will lead by example.

  3. I will ensure that all players get equal instruction, support and playing time.
  4. I will not ridicule or yell at my players for making mistakes or  for performing poorly. I will remember that players play to have fun and must be encouraged to have confidence in themselves.

  5. I will make sure that equipment and facilities are safe and match the players' ages and abilities.

  6. I will remember that participants need a coach they can respect. I  will be generous with praise and set a good example.

  7. I will obtain proper training and continue to upgrade my coaching skills.
  8. I will work in cooperation with officials for the benefit of the game.
